Calculations for a Repacking Warehose in Houston 7200 sq.ft.:

A warehouse of 7200sq.ft and 18ft height has a volume of 129600 cu. ft. Used mainly at day time. Target temperature 75C. Low humidity
Sp. Heat of air is 1KJ/Kg/K; And density is 1.2Kg/M3
For 20F (100F to 80F at peak hours) change of temperature 1M3 (35.29 cu.ft.) of air will need 1.2*1*20*5/9KJ = 13.33KJ
0.35 air change ASHRAE per hour = 129600*0.35= 45360.
So 45360cuft needs 13.33*45630/ 35.29=17236KJ/hr=17236/3600=4.78KWH
After adjusting for other losses it can go up to 5KWH.
This 100F heat remains for maximum 3 hour. Average load for overlapping 9 hours will be half this load. This makes total load as 3*5+9*5/2=37.5KWH or say 40KWH. The rest of the time is cooling & charging period for PCM.
This means we need approximately 800kg in the primary heat exchanger. We may provide 850 lbs of 84F-PCM, 850 lbs of 80F-PCM & the balance cooling & dehumidification will be by AC.
The blower capacity for PCM utilization is 756cfm=756*60 i.e.45360cuft/hr. We must buy a blower of 1000cfm (Higher cfm is proposed as the blower may not give the rated output) and provide an air baffle or an electric regulator.

The suggested AC capacity here is 2 units of 8-10 tons, if with out PCM. We may use PCM & provide 2 units of 4 Tons or buy 1 unit of 5 tons Carrier Heat Pump (AC + Heater) & keep provision for 2nd. This is a must for dehumidification. For dehumidification, AC-fan must be on slow (unlike fast for temperature control). Carrier Air conditioner has Efficiency up to 20.5 SEER & up to 13 HSPF; Typical Heat Pump; (AC+Heater). Buying of Heat pump of any brand is user’s choice.
